Rights of the Child

Everyone under the age of 18 has the rights of the convention. People over 18 have the declaration of “Human Rights” which is slightly different.

Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most rapidly and widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. All the countries of the world have agreed to make this law work, except two: the USA and Somalia. This has changed as of January 2015 – Somalia has now ratified it! President Obama has vowed to change this in the States, though no specific plan has been made yet

Violations continue in every country in the world. There are no real sanctions established by the Convention for these violations. The tools for change include dialogue, international pressure and exposure, enhanced understanding of children’s rights and means of protecting them.
