Apprenticeship learner FAQs What are higher and degree apprenticeships? What qualifications will I achieve? What are the costs? How long do programmes last? What employers support apprenticeships? Who’s eligible? What support is available? How do I get started?

What are higher and degree apprenticeships? A job combined with learning A combination of work and study 80% of learning on the job, in the workplace. 20% developing new skills, knowledge, behaviour University learning days Supported by blended and distance learning Block study days/day release Work based project

What qualifications will I achieve? Name Level Equivalent educational level Intermediate 2 5 GCSE passes Advanced 3 2  A Level passes Higher 4,5,6 & 7 Foundation degree and above Degree 6 & 7 Bachelors or Master’s degree Different levels Common providers (FE-HEI) Professional qualification Example BAL: Three levels of qualification (apprenticeship, degree, CMI status) Check each standard Note: Professional qualifications can be included.

What are the costs? Apprentices cannot be asked to pay for any element of their apprenticeship. Large employers use the “Apprenticeship levy” government funding to pay 100% (employer with annual PAYE bill of 3m/over). Smaller company apprenticeships 95% government funded, 5% employer Employers pay apprenticeship salaries, government funds support learning and training

How long do programmes last? Each apprenticeship differs Lower levels = shorter duration Degree Level 6 & 7: between 3 & 4 years average Learning can be day release (2 days every six weeks), day release. Days on campus, supported by distance learning
