ATOMIC SPECTRA

Classification of Electromagnetic Radiation

Light Creates The Color Spectrum . When a narrow band of light from a “white” light source is sent through a prism, a continuous spectrum containing all wavelengths of visible light is formed.

HYDROGEN: Atomic Spectra When light passes through hydrogen gas, it produces a pattern of four lines

HELIUM: Atomic Spectra When light passes through helium gas, it produces a different pattern

Every element has a unique color
