Life in the late 1700’s The Country is still new and still developing after we gained our independence Population is beginning to disperse and cities are forming although Farming and Government is developing well into the three branches Other evolutions are happening through the church and the state

Spread of Church Churches are often seen as the pillar of the community Evangelists like John Wesley (Methodist church) helped to develop church in colonial Georgia Baptist along with Methodist grew due to Camp Meeting revivals and Circuit Preachers Church Missions even extended to slaves leading to many African American Baptist and Methodist today

Georgia’s third capital Population was also spreading along with churches Population was originally concentrated on the coast but started to move inland Louisville was named after King Louis XVI for his help in the American Revolution Louisville is found in Jefferson county lasted as capital from 1796-1807 S.A.L.M.A is an acronym that helps identify the capitals of Georgia

Creating the College At this time the country had to start from scratch essentially You and a partner have the opportunity to create a college Where would it be found in Georgia? What are three majors that would be offered? What would be the primary focus of the school?

UGA was established on January 27, 1785 making it the first publically supported institute of Higher Education in the country Made possible by a charter that was approved by the Georgia General Assembly The idea of the school was formed by Abraham Baldwin with the then governor Lyman Hall The School first opened its doors in 1801
