“The Practical Assessment Carousel” YEAR 7 DRAMA Ben Turner NQT Drama Sale High School “The Practical Assessment Carousel”

YEAR 7 DRAMA DATA! What they don’t teach you on your PGCE…

For every child you teach, you have to assess them every half-term. YEAR 7 DRAMA For every child you teach, you have to assess them every half-term. For every assessment, you have to enter, submit and analyse data. When you teach 19 classes of 30 students, that is a MUCH harder task than it sounds. That’s approximately 570 assessments. Every six weeks.

YEAR 7 DRAMA 570!!

ADMIN. NIGHTMARE. Add to that: YEAR 7 DRAMA Add to that: keeping track of all the homeworks you set; ensuring you include literacy / numeracy / oracy tasks; differentiating for a whole host of students with different learning needs; trying to keep track of where everyone is within the schemes in order to be able to assess them all in time; JUST TRYING TO REMEMBER EVERYBODY’S NAME! ADMIN. NIGHTMARE.

How can you stay on top of 570 students’: YEAR 7 DRAMA In the penultimate week of every half-term, I have to run nineteen assessments back-to-back. How can you stay on top of 570 students’: Grades DIRT marking Self-assessment Peer-assessment Recording their work Providing the technical provision they need (lights, sound etc.)
