Feb. 12, 2015 Activator: Take out your packet & Study Guide 2) Answer this question on pg. pg. 78 of packet (anywhere is fine) What is the perimeter of this rectangle? ____________________ What is the area of this rectangle? ____________________ (-4,3) (4, 3) 8 + 8 + 6 + 6= 28 units (-4,-3) (4,-3)

Feb. 12, 2015 Activator: Take out your packet & Study Guide 2) Answer this question on pg. pg. 78 of packet (anywhere is fine) What is the perimeter of this rectangle? ____________________ What is the area of this rectangle? ____________________ 8 + 8 + 6 + 6= 28 units (-4,3) (4, 3) (-4,-3) (4,-3) 8 x 6 = 48 units2

Feb. 12, 2015 pg. 78 “Opening Exercise” The distance between the points is 8 units. (4, 5) and (4, -3) Same first coordinates means they are on the same vertical line. Points lie on opposite sides of 0 so their absolute values are added together; 3 + 5 = 8. We can check our answer by just counting the number of units between the two points.

Feb. 12, 2015 Objective(s): SWBAT: solve problems related to the distance between points that lie on the same horizontal or vertical line. graph points, line segments, and geometric shapes, then use the absolute value to find the related distances 6.NS.C.7

Classwork (5 minutes): Pg. 80 # 7 only Feb. 12, 2015 Work with one other student or self.

Feb. 12, 2015 Lesson Summary: Length of a line segment can be determined by finding the distance between its endpoints. You can find the perimeter and area of figures such as rectangles and right triangles by finding the lengths of the line segments that make up their sides and then using the appropriate formula.

What you should do when we go over the STUDY GUIDE as a class: Check off, correct, or write in the correct solution. A.K.A. really pay attention! Ask questions when you are unclear of how we got the answer. STUDYING at home looks like this: looking over your STUDY GUIDE notes looking over old quizzes & tests have someone ask you questions on the study guide

H.W.: Feb. 12, 2015 Use “End-of-Module 3” Study Guide to STUDY for Friday’s (tomorrow) Test!
