Presentation transcript:

Starting up those stories FIRST THING: Grab a book from the back shelf. Grab a vocabulary list from the front of the room Write down the code  Textbook website: http://my.hrw.com/ User Name: astudents496 Password: English9 Class Plan: Act it out, man! Plot reminders Predictions Read “The Most Dangerous Game” Homework: Complete reading “The Most Dangerous Game” and finish plot chart. EXPECT A READING QUIZ NEXT CLASS!

Learning those terms Partner up (wait for instructions – this is ALWAYS don in a way that makes ME happy…muhahahah.) Look at your word. If you want more information, take a look at the entry in the white and blue books in the back of the room. Act it out. No, seriously. I need you and your partner to act it out for the class in a way that will help us all to remember that root, prefix, or suffix. You have 5 minutes to prepare.

Introduction to “the Most Dangerous Game” Where does the danger really lurk?

Before the fun, the basics… What do we recall about plot? Brainstorm…NOW!

GROUP IT UP! (competition style)

Directions Read the quotation you have been given in your group. Determine: One PREDICTION that you make for the story based on the quotation. One REASON for that prediction based on the quotation. One idea for the overall MESSAGE of the story based on the quotation. One REASON for that message based on the quotation.

“Sometimes I think evil is a tangible thing – with wavelengths, just as sound and light have. An evil place can, so to speak, broadcast vibrations of evil.” “He had high cheekbones, a sharp-cut nose, a spare, dark face, the face of a man used to giving orders, the face of an aristocrat.”   “No. You are wrong, sir. The Cape buffalo is not the most dangerous big game… Here in my preserve on this island…I hunt more dangerous game.”

“Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and if needed be, taken by the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure.”   “Following the trail with the sureness of a bloodhound came General Zaroff. Nothing escaped those black eyes, no crushed blade of grass, no bent twig, no mark, no matter how faint, in the moss.”

Quick Stop – Comprehension check What do we know already? How do we know it? What are our characters like?
