How would you mark it Marks Description of this level of answer 1 2 3 U Poor knowledge, no evaluation, very poor understanding. As if someone who has never studied sociology 4 5 One or two common sense points, possibly recycled from the question paper. 6 7 Some knowledge but this is peripheral to what the question demands. Two or Three peripheral points that are simple and underdeveloped. 8 9 E A basic of account of some suitable knowledge such as a study that is related to the question, some evaluation may be evident but it isn’t used to add value to the answer 10 11 12 D/C A range (2 or more) of pieces of relevant knowledge applied to the question but context is mostly implied – the reader has to guess the link to the question rather than it being made explicit. 13 14 B/C A range (3 or more) of relevant and accurate material, its link to question explained well, some evaluation that adds value and depth to the answer. 15 16 17 A/B Sound, detailed knowledge. Accurately interpreted to meet the demands of the question. Material is organised well so that it helps with the flow and structure of the answer. Evaluation is clearly evident through comparisons, praise and criticism and helps reach a conclusion 18 19 20 A As above but these answers show more detail and the evaluation leads to a more distinct conclusion On your model highlight the points, explanations, evidence, evaluations & links Look carefully at the model essay you have been given to see the structure, length and academic language that is expected.
