Assignment For this activity, your class will be divided into 10 groups, each representing a country. As a group, you will create a “history” for your country. All “Countries” will meet to write up a treaty for world peace.

“My Grade?” 50% of your grade will be based on a Country Worksheet that you will turn in individually 50% of your grade will be based on your country’s success in negotiating a treaty that is beneficial for your country That adds up to 100 possible points

Procedure Tuesday: get your group/country together. Begin filling out your country’s worksheet. Each person fills out his/her own worksheet Wednesday: Continue working on worksheet Thursday: Each country will read out a description of its background to the assembled class Friday and Monday: We try to save the world

Scenario The Great Northern War has ended temporarily. All sides are exhausted and have agreed to settle their differences. If they can create a treaty that satisfies the needs of most nations in the world, there will be peace

Scenario If not, the world is doomed. Ten of the world’s greatest nations are meeting to create such treaty, but negotiations will be difficult due to conflicting political and economic needs.

Scenario Study the map of the world and supplied graphs to develop your nation’s resources and complete your national worksheet as a group. Then develop a negotiations strategy and participate in the simulation.

Scenario If a treaty is negotiated that satisfies at least six of ten nations, there will be peace OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE WAR.
