16th September 2016

With Jesus we learn together through faith and love Our Mission Statement With Jesus we learn together through faith and love

Prayer Life in the School Children will start and end their school day with a prayer or quiet reflection. Children attend weekly assemblies and hymn practice for collective worship. Throughout the year, children will attend regular masses at church, to celebrate regular feast days. (All parents are welcome). Class assemblies

Soft start Children will come straight to class through the side gate. They will get settled and do reading or handwriting practise.

Please follow the school uniform policy which can be found on the school website. Children should bring their book bags to school everyday. Children are allowed to bring in a water bottle to school from year 1. Bottles should be clear and should have a sports cap.

Behaviour We follow the traffic light system throughout the school to promote positive behaviour amongst children.

Awards Reward assembly is on Fridays where children receive certificates for their hard work. Children are awarded extra play on Friday for completing and handing in their home work on time and also signing their reading records everyday.

Curriculum and Assessment

E-Safety E-Safety is an important focus on the curriculum. Throughout the year, we teach children the importance of how to use the internet safely. We also tell the children to approach an adult if they are unsure or worried when using the internet. We also ask you as parents/carers to ensure your children understand how to be safe on the internet. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to approach us.

Homework Year 2 Cover books with a clear plastic cover. Keep books neat. Please stick the sheets given for homework in their homework book on individual pages. Use both sides of the page. Encourage your child to do their homework independently, giving them help where needed. Please use a writing pencil to do the homework. Monday: Maths homework, to be submitted on Tuesday. Tuesday: Times tables homework (test on following Tuesday). Wednesday: Spelling homework (test on following Wednesday and new spellings given out on Thursday). Thursday: English homework, to be handed in by Monday. Friday: Handwriting or project work, to be handed in on Monday.

Daily Reading Books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please listen to your child read and sign the reading record every day. 1 book will be given at a time. Please check that your child is able to comprehend and answer questions about the book as your support will help them meet their end of year reading targets. Also read books from the local library to increase vocabulary and know about different types of books.

P.E. P.E. for Year 2 will be on Wednesday and Thursday. All children should have their P.E. uniforms in school everyday. All clothing, plimsolls’ and P.E. bags should be labelled. P.E. kits will be sent home half termly to be washed.

Contact If you need to discuss anything important please wait until all the children have been collected from class after school. You can send a note in if you need to notify us about something. Teacher may need to talk to parents and will use link books to tell parents : If they have been on the red traffic light. To share some exceptional work/effort. To pass on a message from office/SMT. Please let the office know if your child has to attend any dental or other appointments.

Collection Please wait outside the ICT suite (Yr2). Please fill in the collection form with names of people who are likely to collect your child from school. If somebody different is going to collect your child who is not authorised please try to ring the school by 2pm as we will not release any children without permission.

Letters / Website Please send all reply slips, trip permission slips or any other letters via your child’s book bag. Please use the website www.st-marys.hillingdon.sch.uk for information regarding assemblies, termly dates, productions, school closure (due to snowing) etc. We know how important it is for us to work together and we value your time and support. There is a questionnaire also available if you would like to enquire further about any of the curriculum areas.

Thank you for coming. Looking forward to a great year!
