PBL #2 AC S8P1. Students will examine the scientific view of the nature of matter. e. Distinguish between changes in matter as physical (i.e., physical change) or chemical

PROBLEM You are a college student majoring in engineering. Your mom provided you with a supply of Debbie Meyer Green Bags to keep your produce fresher longer. You like them, but you can’t find them near your school. Being a thrifty college student, you want to find an alternative that is cheap and works as well, if not better, without using the limited space in your dorm fridge. You have decided to use your engineering brain to research, locate and test different options.

PROCESS You are focusing your study on bananas as these seem to go bad quickest for you.

SOLUTION You have decided to document your work and create a video that will help other college students solve the same problem. You are required to create a video that educates others on how ripening/rotting produce is a chemical change, and not a physical change. It should also include obvious evidence that indicates a chemical change (ripening/rotting) has occurred, and evidence that may not be readily apparent. You must explain/show the benefits of your solution and the cost/benefit analysis.
