Circulatory System Chapter 37-1.
A pump made of cardiac muscle that pushes blood to our cells
Transport system to carry oxygen and nutrients to all of the cells in the body. Takes away waste products (like CO2) Heart pumps blood continuously Uses.
Carries blood throughout the body Includes: Heart Blood Veins Capillaries Arteries.

Structures of the Heart. Valves Valves are structures that allow blood to flow through only one way (in one direction) when the heart contracts. They.
Circulatory System. Heart Terms Myocardium – The muscle that forms the heart wall. Creates the “beat” of the heart. Endocardium – A tough membrane that.
Circulatory Notes. The Anatomy of the Heart There are four chambers in the heart - two atria and two ventricles. The atria are responsible for receiving.
6.2.1 Draw and label a diagram of the heart showing the four chambers, associated blood vessels, valves and the route of the blood through the heart Some.

Aim: How is blood circulated in the human heart? I. Heart Circulation A. Heart is divided into 2 sides (left and right) 1. Left side contains oxygenated.

CIRCULATORY SYSTEM The highway system of the body.
 I can list the functions of the circulatory system.  I can give examples of materials needed by cells to function.  I can give an example of waste.

Heart Parts Superior Vena Cava- collects deoxygenated blood from the upper regions of the body and returns it to the right atrium. Right Atrium- chamber.

What does the heart look like? The heart: Has four chambers.
The Heart. Pulmonary Circulation and Systemic Circulation The heart is considered to be a double pump because it pumps blood through 2 different loops:

Circulatory System

How does the Heart work?

4 Chambers Atrium Atrium Right Side Left Side Ventricle Ventricle

4 Valves Mitral Tricuspid Aortic Pulmonary

Just 13 Steps for the Pathway Of Circulation

1. Superior & Inferior Vena Cava (largest veins)

2. Right Atrium

3. Tricuspid Valve

4. Right Ventricle

5. Pulmonary Valve

6. Pulmonary Artery

7. LUNGS

8. Pulmonary Veins

9. Left Atrium

10. Mitral Valve

11. Left Ventricle

12. Aortic Valve

13. Aorta (largest artery)

Thick muscle that divides the right & left side of the heart = Septum

Common Heart Problems Heart Valve Problems Stenotic Valve- hardened valve restricting blood flow Regurgitation- “leaky valve” valve does not close tightly Heart Chamber Problems Systolic Heart Failure- weak or enlarged heart causing left ventricle to lose its ability to contract. Diastolic Failure- the chamber becomes stiff and loses its ability to relax and fill with blood Artery Problems Coronary Artery Disease- arteries supplying blood to heart become hardened and narrowed. Rhythm Problems Arrhythmias- irregular heartbeat due to disruption of normal electrical rhythm of the heart. Circulatory Problems Heart Attack- reduced blood flow to the heart causing damaged heart muscle. Stroke- reduced blood flow to the brain causing damaged brain cells.
