‘MOTHERHOOD’

1. Introduction

Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too. Rom 16:13

2. God is like a mother

Psalm 131:1-2  1 My heart is not proud, Lord,     my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters     or things too wonderful for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,     I am like a weaned child with its mother;     like a weaned child I am content.

3. God is compassionate like a mother

Isaiah 49:15-16  15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget,     I will not forget you! 16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;     your walls are ever before me.

4. God is sacrificial like a mother

 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. Jn 16:21

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Luke 13:34

5. God is comforting like a mother

As a mother comforts her child,. so will I comfort you;     As a mother comforts her child,     so will I comfort you;      and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” Isaiah 66:13

1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God   1 Comfort, comfort my people,     says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Isaiah 40:1-2

  I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter to be with you forever. John 14:16

6. God want us to likewise comfort

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

7. Conclusion

My Son, … do not forsake your mother’s teaching for they are a garland for your head and pendants for your neck. Bind them on your hearts always, tie them around your neck.
