10 Terrible Consequences of Sin Christian Living #5 10 Terrible Consequences of Sin

Initiating salvation is easy But it’s just the beginning of a long, arduous journey.

Being born again frees one from the guilt of sin, but not from the desire to commit it. Romans 6: 23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life. Romans 8: 1 – Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

All people are tempted to sin. I Corinthians 10: 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

The flesh has strong desires. Ephesians 2: 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

Christians must have self-discipline Galatians 5: 16-17 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

This lesson will observe just 10 of many the terrible consequences of sin.

I. Sin kills the soul of the sinner.

Genesis 3: 3 – God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.' Ezekiel 18: 4 – Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die. Ezekiel 18: 20 – The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. (ESV)

Jesus warns us about the Consequences of our sins Luke 12: 4-5 I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!

II. Sin annihilates innocents.

INNOCENCE CAN NEVER BE RESTORED. It is best not to know some things. Matthew 10:16 – Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves. Romans 16: 19 – For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil.   INNOCENCE CAN NEVER BE RESTORED.

III. Sin destroys one’s potential.

IV. Sin destroys one’s body.

V. Sin hardens one’s heart.

Luke 8: 5 – The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up.   Hebrews 3: 13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Practicing sin calluses over guilt. I Timothy 4: 1-2 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,

VI. Sin perverts one’s mind.

Isaiah 5: 20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight! I Corinthians 10: 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and stood up to play.”

Colossians 2: 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. II Timothy 3: 13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. ( Those in Matt. 7:21f felt right )

VII. Sin wars against one’s soul.

I Peter 2: 11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. Galatians 5: 16-17 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

Ephesian 6: 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

VIII. Sin paralyzes love.

Love is the cornerstone of Christianity Matthew 22: 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" 37 And He said to him, " 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all you mind.” 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."

Matthew 24: 12 Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. Revelation 2: 4 'But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 'Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place — unless you repent.

IX. Sin postpones God’s purpose.

Some Christians go a whole day with no thought of God purpose Romans 13: 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts

X. Sin leads to more sin.

An exception soon becomes the rule. Can’t tell just one lie.

God’s Grace is sufficient to cover any sin of which a Christian repents. Acts 8: 22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.

Have you surrendered your heart to God ? Why not do it now !

Around this table we remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us
