Monday, August 21, 2017 Homework: Quiz on Wednesday (See the blog for what’s on the quiz) Open your journals. Today you will be copying the rules on the 1st page that we left blank. Yes, some of the rules have changed from our first week of school. (Your grade is NOT based on these new rules!)

Copy the journal rules on the 1st page we left blank Journals must be written neatly and legibly. 1 side of the paper only, skip lines in between journals, no more than 3 journal entries per page. Begin with the date written out at the margin in the following line. Your writing needs to be in sentences and paragraph formats. You need to address the topics and use the language of the questions or topics. Journals should be completed at home if not completed in class.

August 21, 2017 What should a page look like in my journal? See date sentences and paragraphs Because I want to improve my writing, I will reflect on my first week journals. First, I …… August 23, 2017 I know I will focus my writing on the topic. Every day …

Two reflection entries for August 21, 2017 # 1 #2 Write a paragraph reflecting on your journal entries from the first week of school. Did you follow the topics? Did you write enough sentences with details? What would you do the same? What would you do differently? Skip 2 lines and glue your learning check from last week on the page. Write 3-4 sentences. What is important about the writing process? Why are hooks important? Reflect on your grade.

One more journal entry- turn the page Remember: Do NOT write on the back of the page. August 21, 2017 - Today is a different day. (If you are absent go to the next slide) What are your expectations for today? Does it seem strange to you to have so many students absent? We will be experiencing a total eclipse of the sun. Describe what you are expecting will happen and what you will see. What are your thoughts and feelings about a total eclipse? Be sure to use sensory language to create imagery for your readers!

(If absent)One more journal entry- turn the page Remember: Do NOT write on the back of the page. August 21, 2017 - Today is a different day. What are your expectations for today? What did you today while you were not at school? Describe what you are experiences with the total eclipse. What were your thoughts and feelings about a total eclipse?
