EDUC 1300: Learning Framework Ch. 3 Persist

What is persistence? You are going to stay. You are not giving up. You find a way to stick it out. You find a way to make it work. You find a way to NOT give up.

Campus-wide scavenger hunt (Use the HCCS Campus-wide scavenger hunt (Use the HCCS.EDU website & the course catalog) Who is the president of your college? How many campuses does your college operate? Where are they located? When is the last day to drop a class without penalty? What are the prerequisites of MATH 1342: Statistics? Where is the library and tutorial services on your campus? Where is the childcare center located and what number should you call to find out more?

Differences Between Credentials Read more pgs. 53-54 Differences Between Credentials Credential Description Credits/Hours Certificates Awarded by community or junior colleges to refresh, pick up or master a subject or skill at the postsecondary level. Hours or credits usually requiring less than a year. Associate’s Degrees Degree awarded by community or junior college. Some can be transferred to universities. Usually 60-72 credits Bachelor’s Degree Degree awarded by a university. Usually 120-144 credits

Six Levels of Ethical Decision Making Is it legal (law)? Is it fair to me and others (fairness)? Can I live with my decision (conscience)? Is this decision in my long-term best interest (time)? Could I tell my mother about it and be proud (pride)? How would I feel if this showed up on the front page of the newspaper (publicity)?

Cheating: Academic Dishonesty Plagiarism vs. Cheating? Use the Academic honesty policy to determine if the each of the following would be considered academically dishonest. Working on a homework assignment with another student. Looking at another student’s scantron during an exam. Copying files from a computer in the computer lab on campus to your flash drive. Using your old math exams to prepare for your final exam. Using your textbook during an online test. Proofreading a classmate’s paper for them before submission. Recording a lecture.

Reading Course Names & Credits The prefix tells you the department (ENGL). The first number tells you the course level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior). The second number gives you the amount of credits/hours the class is worth. ENGL 2322 This is a sophomore level English class worth 3 credits.

Calculating your G.P.A. Each A is worth 4 points Each B is worth 3 points Each C is worth 2 points Each D is worth 1 point Each F is worth 0 points For each course, the number of points earned is multiplied by the number of credit hours carried by the course. Pg. 62

Example Class Grade Semester Credit Points Total Points ENGL 1301 A 3 4 = 12 BIOL 1401 16 HIST 1301 C 2 6 EDUC 1300 B 9 ART 1201 8 15 hours 51 points Divide the points (51) by the hours (15)= the g.p.a. 3.4
