ART 8th grade 2017-18 Class Syllabus and Information Welcome to 8th grade 2017-18 Class Syllabus and Information Mrs. Shoemaker - Room 116 - lshoemaker@willisisd.org - 936-890-2312 This year-long course is filled with projects and activities to boost your art skills, knowledge and confidence. All assignments will help you develop critical thinking and communication skills, improve your technical skills and grow as an artist. We will focus on improving technique, participating in art contests and shows, exploring the world through multicultural art, painting, and sculpture. This is a high school credit class and students are expected to act accordingly. Students must pass to receive credit. In this class you will: Create meaningful artworks Organize and develop artistic ideas through sketches Utilize time management skills to complete work on time Analyze and discuss artworks from a variety of cultures and time periods Learn and apply the elements of art Develop technical skills including drawing, shading, coloring, writing, painting, sculpting and scissor skills Materials needed: Art pack Pencil Imagination and a POSITIVE attitude Art fee of $20 due by Sept. 1st, 2017 Daily Grades- Warm-ups, notes and practices, sketchbook assignments Warm-ups will be graded weekly based on completion. We go over the answers daily. Sketchbook assignments will be given every Friday and are due the following Tuesday. They may be turned in on Wednesday for half credit. Major Grades- ALL projects Projects will be graded weekly or biweekly based on length of the project. Due dates will be given at the beginning of each project. All grading is subjective and based on effort, completion, neatness and originality. Independent projects will be due at the end of each grading period. These dates are posted in the classroom. Art class consists of students at many different skill levels, so students are graded as individuals. Each student’s ‘best work’ will look different. A Typical Day: Come into classroom quietly Get journal and complete warm-up Work on project in assigned seat Clean up area and turn in work at end of class Student Expectations: Be respectful and responsible Complete and turn in work on time Complete warm-ups daily Be safe with tools and materials Clean up areas before leaving class Tutorial/Studio Time: 7:30-7:45 Thurs. & Friday Students wanting extra time, extra help or who have missed a day of class will be able to stay in the art room during tutorial time. Students will need to get a pass from Mrs. Shoemaker and will be responsible for putting their artwork up and cleaning up any messes before leaving.
