WAR BREAKS OUT!!! OH NO! French and Indian War Vs.

French and Indian War The French and Indian War was ACTUALLY the French vs. the British. The British began to move into the land that the French said they claimed. In 1754, the French built Fort Duquesne around present day Pittsburgh. The British said they claimed this land, too!!! BOOM! ATTACK! One of the leaders was a 22-year-old George Washington. Hmmm, doesn’t that name sound familiar?

French and Indian War The attack began the French and Indian War. The American Indians fought on both sides. Huron/French vs. Iroquois/British At first, the French were winning, but the British captured forts in Montreal gaining control of the St. Lawrence River and Detroit.

Treaty of Paris In 1763, the war ended with the Treaty of Paris. A treaty is a formal agreement between nations. France lost all of its territory in N.A. Great Britain (English) took over the fur trade, and became the STRONGEST nation in the world.

American Indians Resist Many were killed Villages burned to the ground American Indian leaders were angry. Great Britain would not stop pushing into their land.

REBLELLION! Pontiac was an Odawa Chief. He talked the Huron and Potawatomi into a rebellion against Great Britain. A rebellion is a struggle against a government or other authority. In May 1763, Pontiac’s men attacked a British fort.

Rebellion or Lacrosse game? The Odawa warriors played a game of lacrosse outside the fort. The ball would roll under the gate, the warriors grabbed the weapons of the people standing guard. They killed 20 soldiers and took over the fort.

The Rebellion did not last long…. The British were cut off from supplies for 153 days!!! But, the American Indians had to return home to gather crops for the winter. The rebellion did not succeed.

Pontiac Should he have or should he not have formed a rebellion against the British?
