Presentation transcript:

Will Climate Change Harm Future Generations? Climate Change is Affecting our World right now… And will negatively affect the future of our children & grandchildren. What do people think? Will Climate Change Harm Future Generations? People agree, Climate Change will harm future generations. Source: Yale Project on Climate Opinion, 2014

Tipping Point… At what point have we gone too far? When does the problem get away from us? If we surpass 2 Deg. C of post industrial warming, most climate scientists expect significant problems. The recent Paris Agreement aims to limit warming to 1.5 Deg. C …. But we’re almost there already

The problem will need to be handled locally and at the state level. In the event that Washington fails to lead and act relative to climate change then… The problem will need to be handled locally and at the state level.

Change Will Now Need to be Driven from the Bottom Up…

What can you do to slow Climate Change?

60% of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions come from Generating Electricity & Transportation 70% Electricity – Coal & Natural Gas 90% Transportation Gas & Diesel Industry burning fuels & chemical process emissions Residential & Commercial – heat, waste & product use Agriculture – Live stock, soils, rice production Source: US EPA, 2012

We need to apply the brakes to what we are doing, In an economically attractive way, we need to transition away from burning fossil fuels & switch over to renewable energy sources.

Lead By Example… live change… ...do what you can reasonably afford ...but indeed do something!

Bike or Walk when you can…

Municipalities need to make biking & walking feasible…

Bicycles & cars need to be separated

Invest in Green Energy at Home… If you can’t afford a solar roof, change what you can afford.

Engage others in non threatening, constructive dialog… Be positive & tout the economic benefits of combating climate change.

Support or Join a Group that’s Doing Something about it…

Within every problem & challenge hides an opportunity… Why shouldn’t the U.S. economy & manufacturing sector be supplying the world with renewable energy technology?
