Happy Monday!

Today’s Agenda Reading Schedule Assigning Vocabulary Pre-Reading Group Activity Silent Reading (Chapters 1-2) Chapter Questions Homework: Chapters 1-2 Questions and Chapters 1-4 Vocab

Reading Schedule Each day you will be responsible for reading approximately 2 chapters of the novel. Here is the schedule.

Vocabulary The Chrysalids has a lot of new words that will help expand your vocabulary Each member of the class will be responsible for several words and will write them on the board at the beginning of class, so everyone else can write the information down. Please record the words (Azzopardi)you are responsible for teaching the rest of the class. Before class you will: Look up the definition Find the page number the word occurs on Identify the part of speech it is in the novel

Pre-Reading Activity What is a chrysalid? Why do you think Wyndham chose this as the title for the novel? Which elements are commonly found in science fiction stories? What is a parable? Make a list of some parables you have encountered. Predict and discuss what could happen after a Nuclear Holocaust. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of being telepathic? Imagine a dream city in the future. Who would live in this city? What would the buildings and transportation be like? What is perfectionism? When could this quest for the idea become unrealistic or even dangerous? In groups of 4, you will discuss one of the following questions (10 min.) Be prepared to share your question and ideas with the class.

Silent Reading, Chapter Questions, Vocab Now you will have time to read chapters 1-2 and answer the chapter questions. This is due tomorrow. If you have been assigned vocabulary words for chapters 1-4, this is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.
