The Big Leadership Challenges Competing messages about what works in teaching & learning. Implementing strategic change – avoiding a touch of the PEF’s! Balancing competing demands & maintaining focus and achieving clarity across school. Keep relationships at the heart.

Mindset Leadership? Developing learner resilience and challenging fixed mindsets. Empowering staff and developing their own resilience. Being open to challenge and critique.

Be Evidence Based & Data Driven (to a point). Identity your core priorities and stick to them. Seek proof of impact of improvements in teaching and learning but don’t forget the softer measures! Hold your nerve with interventions and allow them to embed across school. Avoid the quick fixes!

Lead (and teach) from your heart. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed people can change the world” Be relational in your leadership and teaching. Model Growth Mindset. Use coaching approaches to nurture staff, pupils and parents. Build collaboration, Praise team effort, hard work & seeking feedback Celebrate risk taking & learning from mistakes. Not about being a hero leader; trouble shooter, commited to challenge and being relational in all that they do. Accept others; manage conflict well; allow teacher agency; default positive.

Bring your authentic self “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” (Maya Angelou) We set the climate and the mood music. 10 seconds.

Trust Your Innate Self “I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realise I should have been more specific” (Lilly Tomlin) Allow time to connect with your self as well as others. Trust your own instinctive judgement.
