Persuasion vs. Argument
Bandwagon/Anti-Bandwagon Approach Appeals to a person’s desire to belong; encourages or celebrates individuality. Example: Anyone with any sense will vote fore Richard Rock. Vote your conscience; an election is not a popularity contest.
Emotional Appeal Evokes people’s emotions (fear, anger, desire). Example: Without working smoke detectors, your family is in danger.
Endorsement/Testimony Employs a will-known person to promote a product or idea. Example: “I use this toothpaste, and it bright
Loaded Language The use of words that are charged with emotion. Example: The heroic firefighters bravely battled the raging inferno.
Hyperbole Exaggeration to make a point. Example: Our candidate does the work of ten people.
