Today’s workshop will include: What Tapestry is How we use Tapestry in school Why we use Tapestry Tapestry at home How you can contribute at home Getting onto Tapestry at home

What is Tapestry? Tapestry is an online tool that allows us to make a learning journey for your child in Reception. We can add photographs, videos and comments of your child’s learning and then link these the to Early Years Curriculum. These are called observations. We use the Tapestry app on the iPads in school to record these observations.

How do we use Tapestry in school? In Reception, both the Teachers and the Early Years Practitioners make observations of the children using the Tapestry App. These observations help us to see what your child is able to do completely on their own, independently without an adults help. Our aim is to take at least one observation a week of each child, which is alongside adult led learning.

Why do we use Tapestry? Tapestry is useful because it records all of the observations made for each child in their own online learning journey. It helps us to monitor the coverage of all 17 areas of the curriculum and highlights next steps for children. Tapestry also allows us to work with parents/carers to see each child’s development at home to create a holistic picture of each child.

Tapestry at home … You can access Tapestry at home, either by the website or on the app. It gives you the opportunity to share your child’s learning and development at home.

How you can contribute at home … You can include experiences at home that your child has accomplished on by themselves or a shared experience e.g. a day out. You can write what your child has done and it is also useful to write down what your child has said. These experiences may connect to learning in school e.g. phonics, or achievements such as swimming.

Getting on to Tapestry at home … Tapestry can be use on the internet, iPhones and Android phones. If you have not yet signed up to Tapestry, please write your email address next to your child’s name on the sign up sheet. Once the activation email has been sent out you will receive an email like this …
