Presentation transcript:

MERIDIONAL TRANSECTS AIMS Examine the latitudinal evolution of tracers following deep and intermediate water masses (e.g. Western Boundary Current, North Atlantic Deep Water, AAIW, AABW). 2. Provide linkage between other sections for oceanographic consistency. Proposed work 4 NIOZ cruises in the north and south western basins (proposed by Hein de Baar). These will be high resoluton (1 degree resolution). 2. 1 UK lead cruise (high resolution transect). Challenges need strong hypothesis for funding Th only basinscale sections- optimise sampling resolution carefully

SW Atlantic Meridional Justifications Examine the latitudinal evolution of tracers following deep and intermediate water masses (e.g. Western Boundary Current, North Atlantic Deep Water, AAIW, AABW). entrance of Southern Ocean water masses (AAIW, AABW) into the western Atlantic Basin (connects to Drake cruise), entrance of NADW to Southern Ocean far field effects of dust input, margin inputs, comparison of seawater signal to observations at the margins
