Text-based Analysis: What is it? What does text-based analysis mean? Why is it important?

What is the meaning of text-based? All claims and evidence come straight from the text.

What is the meaning of analysis? Closely studying something by looking at its parts and how they fit together to understand the meaning.

What is the meaning of text-based analysis? Closely studying a text, looking at how the author pieced it together, and understanding the central idea.

How can readers accomplish text-based analysis? Readers can break down parts of a text to understand its details and central idea. Readers read multiple times, looking for claims, themes, tone, vocabulary, and sentence structure. Readers think deeply to understand what the text is stating and the author’s message based on the evidence.

What are inferences? Inferences are not directly stated in the text. Readers have to make guesses based on clues in the evidence in the text.
