VeRTEBRATES

DEFINITION All vertebrates have got an internal skeleton and a backbone, their bodies usually consist of a: head (skull), a TRUNK (WITH OR WITHOUT A TAIL) And USUALLY FOUR LIMBS. there are five groups of vertebrates.

groups OF VERTEBRATES MAMMALS BIRDS REPTILES AMPHIBIANS FISH

MAMMALS CAN BE LAND OR AQUATIC ANIMALS. THEY BREATHE AIR. HAVE A BODY COVERED IN HAIR CALLED FUR. HAVE GOT LIMBS,ARMS AND HANDS,LEGS,FINGS OR WINGS. ALMOST ALL MAMMALS ARE VIVIPAROUS.

BiRdS ARE LAND ANIMALS. BREATHE AIR. HAVE GOT FEATHERS AND WINGS. MOST BIRDS CAN FLY (EXCEPT THE KIWI BIRD THAT LIVES IN NEW ZEALAND). A BIRD’S LEGS ARE COVERED IN SCALES. THEIR FEET HAVE GOT CLAWS. A BIRD’S MOUTH IS HARD AND IT IS CALLED A BEAK.

reptiles CAN BE LAND OR AQUATIC ANIMALS. ALL REPTILES BREATHE AIR. THEIR BODIES ARE COVERED IN SCALES AND SOME HAVE GOT A HARD SHELL. EXCEPT OF SNAKES,ALL REPTILES HAVE GOT FOUR LEGS WITH SHARP CLAWS. MOST REPTILES ARE OVIPAROUS AND LAY EGGS ON DRY LAND.

AMPHIBIANS ARE LAND ANIMALS, BUT THEY HAVE TO LIVE CLOSE TO WATER. THEY HAVE GOT VERY THIN SKIN. THEY ARE CARNIVORES AND USUALLY OVIPAROUS. BABY AMPHIBIANS OF THE FROG ARE CALLED TADPOLE.

FISH ARE AQUATIC ANIMALS. THEY CAN BREATHE UNDERWATER. THEIR BODIES ARE COVERED IN SCALES. THEY HAVE GOT FINS TO SWIM UNDERWATER. MOST FISH ARE OVIPAROUS.

INVERTEBRATES DEFINITION: THEY ARE ANIMALS THAT HAVEN’T GOT AN INTERNAL SKELETON OR A BACKBONE.
