National Institue of Infectious Diseases Intermediate Uveitis in HTLV-1 André Luiz Land Curi National Institue of Infectious Diseases INI/IPEC- FIOCRUZ BRAZIL

Ocular History 35 year-old female from Rio de Janeiro Blurred vision in both eyes for 1 week Blood transfusion in 1987 . HTLV-1 infection known since 2002 with positive serology

At Presentation – 12/2006 VA: 20/60 RE 20/200 LE Anterior chamber +1/+4 cells, +1/+4 flare, fine corneal precipitates cells in the anterior vitreous vitreous haze +2/+4 OD, +3/+4 OS retinal vasculitis OU FLA : Disc and vascular leakage in mid periphery in both eyes

Treatment Pulse Methylprednisolone for 3 days Oral Prednisone 60mg/d Ciclosporine 250mg/d Prednisone tapering: flare-ups, control with increasing dosage again

Last Visit – 12/2013 VA : 20/25 OU no anterior segment inflammation no signs of vasculitis vitreous haze +1 OU Prednisone 5 mg/d with ciclosporin 2x100mg/day

Conclusion HTLV-1 should be included in the differencial diagnosis of intermediate uveitis especially in endemic regions in special cases immunosuppressive therapy may be needed
