Group Status Report 2-10-16 Boston Griffith Riddle Spencer Weiler Mars UAV Group Status Report 2-10-16 Boston Griffith Riddle Spencer Weiler
Overview In the future, missions to Mars will consist of several rovers designed to collect surface samples over large areas. There will exist a need to collect and return these samples to a central base in an efficient manner. Project goal: Develop a fully functioning catch-and-reel mechanism integrated in the existing prototype aircraft, designed for fully automated target acquisition and recovery.
Status From Previous Semester AirTitan 2520 acquired and assembled by previous group Designed a working catch-and-reel mechanism mounted to a DC motor Group determined that the existing design was too massive, was unreliable, and did not include a motor with enough torque
Semester Milestones Design, print, and assemble a functioning catch-and-reel mechanism Perform an isolated test of the mechanism prior to installation in the UAV Modify the UAV to incorporate the catch-and-reel mechanism Perform a successful manual flight utilizing the mechanism
