Archimedes Screw

Parts Needed

Questions/Research Place a K’Nex ball at the base of the Archimedes Screw. Predict what will happen to the ball when the screw turns. Turn the crank. Record your observations.

Questions/Research Open the K’Nex ball and add weight inside. Move the ball along the screw again. How does the added weight affect the effort used to move the ball up the screw? Is it harder or easier to move this ball? Write a description of your experience. What simple machines are included in this project?
