Fig. 1 Graphic representation of serum protein fractions in juvenile patients with liver insufficiency (Pederson and Waldenström). Each group of three columns represents the result of serum fractionation in one patient (clinical data from the same patient are shown in Table 1). Column 1: Fractionation of albumin and globulin after electrolyte precipitation (Theorell-Widström). Column 2: Electrophoresis of serum proteins, beta fraction is shown as slanting etched area. Column 3: Ultracentrifrugation of component 4.5 and component 7. The cross-etched area in the upper part of the column represents component 20 (never elevated above normal). Limit between albumin and globulin (electrophoretic) is taken as axis to demonstrate decrease of albumins and increase of globulins. Double lines show variation of alpha and beta fractions.
