Student STAARs

Cumulative Score Requirement A Quick Review - ELAR 1875 x = 6 11250 Level II Satisfactory Cut Score Cumulative Score Requirement Number of Tests

A Quick Review – Math, Science and Social Studies 3500 x = 3 10500 Level II Satisfactory Cut Score Cumulative Score Requirement Number of Tests

All students must meet the minimum score to count toward the cumulative score Recommended Eng. 3 and Alg. 2  Level II DAP  Level III OR ALL students must meet or exceed the minimum score on each EOC. Students graduating under the Recommended plan must also meet or exceed the Level II cut score for English III and Algebra II. Students graduating under the DAPplan must also meet or exceed the Level III cut score for English III and Algebra II.

What do these numbers mean for our students who are working toward graduation? We are going to look at some different student scenarios to determine whether, assuming students have met all curricular requirements, they will graduate based on their STAAR EOC Scores. The handout that you have has six different student scenarios. Students 1-3 have declared their graduation plan to be the Recommended plan. Students 4-6 have declared their graduation plan to be the DAP. Let’s start by looking at student one.

11364 10634 10275 10630 English Mathematics English I Reading 1825 English I Writing 1802 Algebra I 3615 English II Reading 1829 English II Writing 1823 Geometry 3456 English III Reading 2036 English III Writing 2049 Algebra II 3563 Science Social Studies Biology 3381 World Geography 3395 Chemistry 3425 World History 3359 Physics 3469 US History 3876 11364 10634 √ √ √ 10275 10630 First, I am going to bracket any score in English that falls below 1875, and any math, science or social studies score that falls below 3500. Second, I am going to check to see if any of the bracketed scores (which fall below the Level II cut score) are lower than the minimum score. I will put an “x” over the score if it falls below the minimum. I know the student will have to retake these tests. Third, I am going to check against the minimum scores on my yellow handout to see that the student has met the cumulative score requirement for each content area. He has, except for science. I am going to check to see whether he’s meet the English III and Algebra II requirements while I’m here. He’s exceeded the Level II Satisfactory cut score for both English tests (1875) and for Algebra II (3500). Will he graduate with these scores? No. He will need to take at least one of the science EOCs in order to achieve the cumulative score requirement of 3500.

What about the other students? ELAR scores  1875 Math, science, social studies scores  3500 any score  the minimum. (Use the yellow sheet to help you determine this.) 4. √ English III scores  1875 (Recommended) 5. √ Algebra II scores  3500 (Recommended) 6. * English III and Algebra II scores  Level III Advanced Academic cut scores (DAP)
