NRA was established in 1935. The model was taken from PIARC's organisation and ways of working The Association aims at developing the road and road transport sectors in Northern Europe through professional cooperation between experts from all Nordic Countries: Denmark, Finland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The Association has more than 800 participants in the work of its Technical Committees, Theme Groups and 6 National Boards The Association has all together some 300 Member Organisations www.nvfnorden.org July 2008

NRA aspires to spread information also beyond its Committees - to the whole Nordic road sector. Every Member Country has its own NRA National Section. Activities: Every Member Country has its own NRA National Section. The Chair of the Association rotates in periods of four years among the Member Countries, the Faroe Islands excluded. The period 2008 - 2012 is chaired by NRA Iceland. The Technical Committees work on both a national and a Nordic level. International Cooperation NRA has an Agreement of Understanding with the World Road Association (PIARC) and the Baltic Road Association (BRA). NRA participates actively in the work of PIARC's National Committees. NRA also represents all Nordic countries in the PIARC's Executive Committee.
