Where were the Vikings? The Vikings were located in what is now known as England. Anglo-Saxon England was divided into 9 colonies. The colonies were: > Mercia > Wales > Wessex > Sussex > Kent > Essex > East Anglia > Northumbria > Strathclyde

How did location affect the Vikings? Because of the large landmass of all the kingdoms together, the best way for a Viking army to attack another kingdom was to sail in and attack from the coast.

Climate? England has a very temperate climate. Temperatures rarely go below 23 degrees, and they rarely go above 86 degrees There is steady rainfall all year around, and prevailing winds come from the south-west. Snow is very rare outside of the mountain regions, And northern regions.

How did the climate affect the Vikings? The climate didn’t have a huge affect on the Vikings because the weather was fairly moderate. The main thing that they had to worry about is when it storms, because it is very difficult to sail while the ocean is disrupted by bad weather

Waterways? Anglo-Saxon England was surrounded by water, so there were only few large water masses used to travel. The water ways were: > The Mediterranean sea > the Atlantic ocean > the North Sea > The Irish sea > the English Channel

How did the waterways affect the Vikings? The water ways affected the Vikings because most of them were farmers and fisherman. As fisherman they would need to know the waterways in order to find the best places to fish. Also the vikings invaded other kingdoms by sailing to them instead of marching on foot, therefore they also need to know the water ways in order to know which one is in the direction of the kingdom they are invading.

Geography? The northern regions had a lot of mountains and flat planes The southern regions had a lot of hills, flat areas were more rare in the south of England.

How did the geography affect the Vikings? The geography didn’t affect the Vikings in battle except for minor climate changes when in the northern regions. farming is more difficult in the southern regions because of the hilly environment.
