Year 7 Science Parents Information Evening Marple Hall School 3rd October 2018

How is Year 7 Science Taught? 6 lessons per fortnight Each term is divided to cover Biology topics, Chemistry topics and Physics topics

How do we decide the setting? Sets for Maths and Science are linked. They are currently based on KS2 data. We will look at changes at the end of each term, alongside Maths. How do we decide the setting?

What will we teach in year 7? Feeding relationships Y7 Block 1 Y7 Block 2 Y7 Block 3 Biology Plants Reproduction Feeding relationships Chemistry Particles Atoms and elements Chemical reactions Physics Energy Forces motion Waves

How do we assess? Start point Built using KS2 content linking to KS3 Teacher checked Provides teachers with information about gaps in knowledge Informs planning for progress

How have we responded to change? Challenge built into KS3 to reflect the new GCSE content Greater emphasis on skills built into KS3 to reflect changes in examination assessment criteria Increased opportunity to apply maths skills in science reflecting changes at GCSE Biology = 10% Chemistry = 20% Physics = 30%

Homework: Embedding Set once a fortnight by each teacher Recall questions based on the topic being taught
