What we have been doing… We have been doing research on different ways to improve the Costa coffee experience. Some of the things we have been doing include; Questionnaires. Complete surveys Review Of Surveys. Charts. Observation. Focus groups. We made a questionnaire, we took them around the institute for people who use Costa to answer the questions we made. We then reviewed the survey to see what people would want most improving or changing. We recorded our results into a chart.

Other ways of research… Observation What people buy. How they buy it. Age group . Gender. How many people use Costa. Deals. Observation This is a good research method as you can see what people buy and how they buy the products, you can observe on what ages and what gender buys what. For example teenagers may go towards buying an hot chocolate then a coffee. Also you could observe how many teenagers come into Costa, so they can make deals on the things they buy so more come to Costa.

Focus group... Using a focus group can be beneficial to the research for many reasons, here are a few; Good research method. More confident to speak. Surrounding. Truthful answers. Multiple answers. A focus group is a good research as individuals may not want to say what they think as they might be quite shy on there own, but in a group they may open out in front of there friends, which means you can get a truthful answer from the group of people. They can say the negatives and positives from the questions.

Surveys… Specific answers. Ways of using surveys. Confidential. Easy to create. Production is at low cost. Surveys are good for research as you can answer the questions you want to ask, also there are many ways you can send a survey around, you can do it by sending it by post, email and even by telephone. Also when giving out a survey they can put what they think as they don’t need to put there name down. Creating a survey is an easy and quick way to collect the data you need as well as being at a low cost to produce.

The research we found was best… Survey I think survey would be the best way to look at how to improve Costa, as you can ask all different kind of questions, and we could give it to tutors so they can give it to there group to fill in. We could ask what they do and don’t want in Costa, but we will make it multi choice so they have to put an answer and don’t take too long on the survey as they may get bored by the end if they have to think for themselves, so making it multi questions can give you more answers.

Tesco’s method about market research… Tesco use surveys, they send them around every 4 weeks to different customers They use this to see the good things and the bad things they are doing They can set long term goals after analysing them Tesco use surveys as there methods for there research, they add questions such as the hygiene, quality food, customer service and value for money. They surveyed around 11,000 over a year, they were reported every 4 weeks and Tesco showed a long-term improvement, they used this technique to try and improve and beat the competition.

What we found out from the results… Improvements and things that need keeping. Music. Seating. Seating Area. Special Offers. One of the improvements where adding music to the lounge for a more comfortable atmosphere. More comfortable seats such as sofa’s, soft chairs and more. Larger seating area so larger groups can sit together. More special offers for example loyalty cards where if you buy six costa drinks you collect the stickers to get the 7th for free.
