Steps to Revolution 1. Albany Congress – June 1754 – northern colonies met to coordinate defense of colonies and discuss problems with French. *Plan of Union – elected inter-colonial legislature with taxing power. Colonial governments refused because of fear of central control. Plan for a central government with independence, crown didn’t like it.

. Seven Years War 1756 military disaster until England turns to Pitt. - Lets colonies do their own recruiting and reimburses colonies for costs. Deportation of Acadians. Wolfe and Montcalm at Quebec. Treaty of Paris 1763- France and Spain leave new world on British lands. first exposure of colonists to the crown and didn’t like it. left Indians in bad position. Couldn’t play one off against the other and it became obvious that they were getting pushed out. 1761 Treaty with Indians allows building of forts on Indian land and British get large tracts of land. The defeat of the French and the ceding of this much land play a huge role in the movement toward Revolution. this ended “salutary neglect” and got the Parliament directly involved. goodies for everyone
