Emergency Classifications and Types Tornado Power Outage Attack - Chemical Lockdown Lockdown Lockdown Highest Risk: April – July Highest Risk: April – July December - February Risk Level Low No Specific Timeframe

Emergency Classifications and Types Bomb Major Gas Leak Fire Evacuation Evacuation Evacuation Rick Level Medium No Specific Timeframe Rick Level Medium No Specific Timeframe Risk Level Medium No Specific Timeframe

Tornado Procedure Once severe weather approaches Nursing will take control. Monitoring Weather radio (located in Medication Room) Start Communication Tree (located in RED binder) Announce “Tornado Warning” Designate Staff to assist with Residents Announce “All Clear” upon end of warning

Tornado Procedure During Tornado WATCH Staff will start head count Staff will instruct Residents to stay in building/apartment Staff will instruct Residents to stay out of tub, showers and pool Staff will inform Nursing leads of any Resident who refuses

Resale Staff will direct all Guests/Residents to designation - safe locations such as bathrooms/storage areas with no windows. EVERYONE will stay in shelter until “All Clear” is called by Nursing

Power Outage Procedure During power outage, backup generators will maintain… Limited lighting Heat Water Staff Must Manage Resident Fear and Comfort

Power Outage Procedure Once Power Outage Occurs… Nursing will designate Staff to attend to Resident needs Maintenance will monitor Power Outage reporting to Nursing

Power Outage Procedure Staff will: Go room to room, checking on Residents, encouraging them to go where electricity is being maintained (Activity Center) Verify each Resident is safe, warm, comfortable Residents who choose to stay should be provided with a flashlight Report head count to Nursing Continue Resident checks hourly Resident checks will be done hourly until “All Clear” is called by Maintenance

Call Administrator/Nursing next Bomb Treat MOST important part of a bomb threat is the initial contact. The individual who receives initial contact must… Stay calm Keep talking, asking as many questions as possible Listen for anything and everything (background sounds, music, vehicles/trains) Do not use lights, cell phones. IMMEDIATELY CALL 911 Call Administrator/Nursing next

Residents/Staff will then be allowed back in the building Bomb Threat Announcement should be made asking all Residents/Staff to report to outdoor shelter areas (Meadows Courtyard and north Resale parking lot). Designated Staff will start head count, coordinating with other shelter areas Once everyone is accounted for and outside building, transitioning of Residents to the Retreat Center or Faith Christian School Gymnasium may begin. While evacuating Residents, be aware of anything out of place. If you notice anything, contact 911 immediately. Police and Fire will clear the building and report “All Clear”. Residents/Staff will then be allowed back in the building

Call Administrator/Nursing next Major Gas Leak Anyone who smells gas, contact Maintenance immediately and clear the area (discontinue the use of fire and lights). Maintenance will respond immediately to assess the severity of the leak. Small leaks do not require evacuation Major leaks require evacuation IMMEDIATELY CALL 911 Call Administrator/Nursing next

Residents/Staff will then be allowed back in the building Major Gas Leak Announcement should be made asking all Residents/Staff to report to outdoor shelter areas, away from building. Designated Staff will start head count, coordinating with other shelter areas. Once everyone is accounted for and outside building, transitioning of Residents to the Retreat Center or Faith Christian School Gymnasium may begin. Once gas leak is corrected, Maintenance will report “All Clear” Residents/Staff will then be allowed back in the building

Takeaways Always remain calm and assure Residents that everything will be okay. All Emergency Plans are located in the RED binder near the fire boxes(know them). During all emergency situations, while speaking with Resident family members, assure them that Resident is safe, comfortable and the situation is under control.
