What Skills Will I Gain? . Public Speaking skills→ Students learn to make speeches to present in front of the committee(sometimes scripted other times not); interpersonal skills, argumentation/debate skills .Critical thinking skills→ Learn to compromise and find a favorable solution for all delegates involved; negotiation and cooperation; thinking quickly .Research/Writing Skills→ Will learn country you represent in depth: policy, history, and goals in regard to topic; narrow search, how to extract valuable information from long text, find possible solutions; write effective paper demonstrating comprehension

What’s on the agenda? United Nations→ understanding different committees and their power, the millennial goals, common topics Current Events→ Weekly discussions about international affairs and global issues Parliamentary Procedure→ the “rules” of MUN and process Position Paper→ the “background”: history, policy, solution Resolution Paper→ the “product”: solution created with other delegates in committee Moderated Caucus→ finding “your voice and style” , making an impression on the committee Unmoderated Caucus→ negotiating with delegates to push your agenda/policy

What is expected of ME? . Determination,discipline, and effort . “Take risks”, get out of your comfort zone .Open-minded, receptive to constructive criticism and ready to improve .Hand assignments according to due date, be prepared and attentive in class

What conferences will I participate in? Experienced Delegates .Upwards of two away conferences: RUMUN and BosMun .SHSMUN simulation .SIDMUN Novice Delegates .Simulations in class
