CAUSES OF THE WAR Texas was annexed (added) into the U.S. in 1845. The U.S. claimed the Rio Grande River as the border, Mexico claimed the Nueces River as the border.

THE END OF THE WAR The Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo was signed to end the Mexican War. Mexico was forced to relinquish (give up) all claims to Texas and surrendered one half of its land to the United States in exchange for $15,000,000.
