PERT & WBS from Criticaltools www.criticaltools.com Paul.cuypers@evry.com MSP®, PMI-ACP®, PMI-PMP®,PRINCE2®, ISTQB, CSM

Criticaltools USA based firm (Austin, Texas) Order software online via the web Cost lifetime license USD 349 (approximately NOK 2800) Use as standalone or integrated with MS (full two way integration) Visual oriented, drag & drop & expand Functionality for PERT, WBS, GANT and Task Sheets (spread sheet) Import & export in MS Excel and Word (WBS dictionary) Hyperlink to documents (on a share or SP) Export as a .png picture WSB & PERT used to be separate applications, now all in one

WBS Create Work Breakdown, Result Breakdown and Capability Breakdown structures Break down and roll up functionality Used for planning, estimating, status and forecast Various view modes Customize information fields Vary shapes & colors, add flags Standard MS controls (CTR + V etc) will work

PERT Create network plans using drag and drop Set duration and work Set type of relation e.g. Finish-To Start etc. Calculates and shows the critical path Integrated with WBS elements Show activities, milestones, decision gates and decision points

Tips Use color codes to indicate progress Break he project result down into deliverables and work packages first, then make a PERT Base your progress or Earned Value on approved deliverables, not on percentage completed of activities Assign Cost Accounts to main deliverables, not to activity type Be aware that deliverables do not equal activities Use WBS for historic information when estimating new projects Keep a baseline version and a working version of each plan Send out regular updates to the team

Finally: Is it worth the expense? Based on NOK 800 kroner cost per workhour, If you save 4 work hours in your project due to a better coordination and understanding in the team of the work at hand, Alternatively savings as a result of shorter status meetings, You are already break-even………. PS: I am not affiliated with the company 
