Chapter 10
10.1 Categorical Data When data can be grouped into categories, it is considered categorical instead of numerical. Sometimes categorical data can seem like it’s numerical (such as grade level). A two-way frequency table displays frequencies for two categories. This two way frequency table is from a middle school music and sports survey The entries 8, 3, 2, and 7 are called joint frequencies because each entry gives us information about 2 categories. A frequency marginal distribution table is similar, but it includes totals. (Marginal = totals) Do pg 582-583
10.2 Relative Frequencies Relative frequency distribution tables provide the ratios of occurrences in each category to the total number of occurrences. If the table includes totals, then it becomes a relative frequency marginal distribution. Do pg 590-592
10.2 Relative Frequencies Do pg 593
10.3 Relative Frequencies Conditional Distribution Relative frequency conditional distribution tables provide the ratios of occurrences in a category to the total of another category instead of the overall total. Do pg 600
