Rise of the Dictators Adolf Hitler j Benito Mussolini Josef Stalin 24-1 Adolf Hitler was the High Chancellor of the German Parliament. He was also the leader of the National Socialists also known as the Nazi Party. Soon after Hitler came into power, he made sure that he would stay into power. Rise of the Dictators Adolf Hitler Benito Mussolini did much of the same things Adolf did but Mussolini did them first. Much like Hitler Mussolini promised to restore Italy to its former glory (Italy was also harshly affected by the Great Depression.) j Benito Mussolini Josef Stalin was different he was on the ally side in world war two but he was just as ruthless. He made poor peasants give up their land, animals, and crops to government run farms and if they resisted they would be executed on the spot. Josef Stalin

Military Aggression Military Aggression is a warlike act by one country against another without cause by the military. German Aggression Hitler vowed to create a powerful nation. So he raised forces and created an army that were called the Nazi’s. Which defied the Treaty of Versailles. He further defied it by sending troops to Western Germany; they remained idle until 1939. Japan Attacks China In 1931, the Japanese army seized Manchuria. The Chinese were treated brutally. Over 250,000 civilians/prisoners of war were massacred.

Good Neighbor Policy As Germany invaded Poland, Americans strengthened ties with southern America. They declared that they no longer had the right to intervene with Latin affairs. FDR went even further by withdrawing the American troops from Nicaragua and Haiti. War Begins in Europe Hitler and Stalin shocked the world by signing a nonaggressive agreement. Sixteen days after Germany invaded Poland, the USSR also invaded Poland. In the early days of the war, Germany seemed unstoppable. They conquered country after country. Britain sent troops to help France. The British and the French were quickly overpowered. By May of 1940, the Germans forced them to retreat to Dunkirk, a French port on the English Channel.
