What we have partaken of and our duty to share it The gift of god What we have partaken of and our duty to share it -God has had this message on my heart for awhile -I love evangelism! And grabbing ahold of the reality of the gift of God in your life is paramount -Afshin Javid—Middle Eastern man who was a prior Muslim. Jesus, how will they be forgiven when I tell them? Jesus said how easy have I forgiven you (As easy as drinking water, no even easier than drinking water) -He pastors a Church in Canada now of over 2000 people. The power is in His word And 2 Cor 4:7 states we have this treasure in earthen vessels
The gift of god Gift Defined 1. Something given voluntarily without payment in return, as to show favor toward someone, honor an occasion; present. 2. Something bestowed or acquired without any particular effort by the recipient or without its being earned Honor an occasion: Day I was saved, and the day I was baptized in the Holy Spirit Not being earned…sounds like grace to me
It is the gift of god Ephesians 2:8-9 (NASB) For by grace you have been saved through faith; and [a]that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. -We did not and cannot earn it! -Gifts cannot be earned -If it’s earned it’s a reward -Your salvation, redemption, purity, wholeness, holiness, righteousness, healing, the mind of Christ, the new creation, you new identity, your victory. -By grace, through faith -It’s a gift church! It is the package deal! -We boast in our weaknesses!
The free gift of god Romans 6:23 (NASB) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal LIFE in Christ Jesus our Lord. -We also see here that the Gift of God gives us life that counts. Restoring the glory of God that was lost in the fall. -Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God -Free gift: Do others need to earn the right for us to tell them? Like if they’re nice and we get along with them we’ll tell them -Mat 10:8 Freely you received, now freely give! (people are rough!) -Walk around with the presents say “freely I received, no freely I give”
The gift of righteousness Romans 5:17 (NASB) For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. -The gift consists of Much More! -Romans 5:20 Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more -We see here the contrast between what Adam did, and what Christ did -John 10:10 …I came that they may have LIFE, and have it abundantly -John 14:6…I am the way, the truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. -How do they come to the father through Jesus?
How will they believe if they haven’t heard? Romans 10:13-15 (NASB) for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who [a]bring good news of good things!” -And I think we have some beautiful feet in this place tonight! -Look at your neighbor and tell them they have some beautiful feet! -Why are they beautiful? They come bearing gifts and good news! Backwards Planning: Mr. Pete Torok -Start at the goal/result and work our way back from there. The goal: We want people to be saved amen? -Willing that none perish 2 Peter 3:9 -But how do we get them to be saved? How does that opportunity get created in their lives? V14 How will they call on him whom they have not believed? -So in order to call on him, they need to believe in Him - Romans 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, [a]resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, [b]resulting in salvation. -And in order to believe in Him, they need to hear -And in order to hear, they need a preacher -And in order to preach they must be sent! Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” -We’ve been sent. We know we’re supposed to preach the good news! -But you may be asking what specific talent god has given me to do this?
He gave gifts to men Ephesians 4:7-8 (NASB) But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore [a]it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.” -He gave gifts to men. And the manifestation of those gifts may look different than in others, but will ultimately produce the same result. -The wrapping and your vessel may look different (the wrapping), as well as the way you present the gospel.
For the work of service Ephesians 4:11-12 (NASB) And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the [a]saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; -Do you see the gift…he gave some -Body has many parts -Running, performing different functions but same goal -But Charlie this building up the body of Christ, preaching the gospel, sharing my faith, I’m not really into that. I can’t do it. It’s not in me. -I want to tell you tonight It’s no longer I, it’s no longer I
It’s no longer I Galatians 2:20 (NASB) I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and [a]the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Are we worried about their response? Romans 3:3 (NASB) 3 What then? If some [a]did not believe, their [b]unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? Mat 10:8…freely you received, no freely give! You’re not responsible for their response, your responsible to share the good news! To share the gift of God and the treasure that is in these earthen vessels! We boast in our weaknesses!
So that the power of Christ may dwell in me 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NASB) And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast [a]about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with [b]insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. Is his power dwelling in you to the max! To the level it needs to! Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and [a]that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
