Stirling Management Centre Tourism Framework for Change Update

Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC) Skills Group TFFC Skills Group brought about for 3 principle reasons Address the key skills issues that have blighted our sector for too long. Industry needing to take a stronger lead in ensuring that only those skills interventions, programmes and qualifications that meet the needs of industry and the individual are supported. To encourage a new age of collaborative working across government, education, public sector and industry to ensure that all parties are working towards the same shared common goal.

Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC) Skills Group What does the TFFC Skills Group do? Provides a balanced, collaborative, informed and sustainable approach to skills. It published a clear strategy in March 2010 that supports skills within our sector, focusing on 4 key areas; Improving Appeal and Attract New Talent Improving Skills Customer Service Leadership & Management

Improve Appeal and Attract New Talent Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC) Skills Group Improve Appeal and Attract New Talent Change Perceptions, Educate and Inform Attracting young people, career changers and adult job seekers is key focus Educating and informing influencers – teachers, careers advisors, JCP staff, parents Improving quality and prevalence of work experience to an Industry Standard Improving HLTT Graduate retention into the industry

Improve Skills Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC) Skills Group Informing, supporting and guiding educators, providers and industry Increase the skill levels of those entering the profession Increase the number of employees with qualifications commensurate with their current job role. Reduce the number of employers reporting skills gaps within their business. Reduce the number of employees within the sector with no formal qualifications Ensure that education and skills training meets the needs of the employer and individual. Provide better sign posting for opportunities to up-skill and re-skill the existing workforce. Increase in the number of businesses accessing information on qualifications and funding Increase in the number of businesses engaging with work based providers. Increase in the number of businesses engaging with FE / HE and Schools Increase in the number of businesses engaging with National Occupation Standards consultations

Customer Service Simplify access relating to Customer service training Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC) Skills Group Customer Service Providing a structured and valued offer to industry Simplify access relating to Customer service training Provision of a structured ladder of progression for customer service training  from entry to Director level Recognition of employer good practise and industry lead training programs Customer service to be at the forefront Instilling wider understanding of the importance of ‘tourism is everyone’s business’ including into the school system

Leadership & Management Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC) Skills Group Leadership & Management Encouraging continuous professional development Development of the “International Leadership School – Scotland” Increase managers engaging in continuous development Mentorship and scholarship initiatives within Scotland. Managers to achieve minimum qualifications Engagement with Professional Bodies
