Homework Leave your jotters on your desk at the end of the period for me to collect to check

LESSON 2- INTRO TO MICROSCOPES Cells Alive LESSON 2- INTRO TO MICROSCOPES

Today we are going to.. Talk about cells Learn how to use microscopes Label the microscope

What are cells?

What are cells? Cells are the basic units of life There is no living thing smaller They are the building blocks of ALL living things They are TINY

What do each of these photos have in common? Microscopes We use MICROSCOPES to look CLOSELY at cells What do each of these photos have in common?

Microscopes Cells are far too small to see with our naked eye We can use MICROSCOPES to MAGNIFY the cell so we can see all the different parts of it

Labelling the microscope The eyepiece lens The part of the microscope we look through- it usually has a magnification of x10

Labelling the microscope The objective lenses Different lenses with different magnifications to allow us to look closer (zoom) at our slides

Labelling the microscope The stage The slide is placed upon the stage

Labelling the microscope The stage clips Holds the slide in place

Labelling the microscope Light source (mirror) Passes light through the slide and specimen

Labelling the microscope Focusing dials Focuses the image to give a clear picture
