Unit 1 exam analysis & unit 2 overview AP human geography Population and migration unit 2015-2016

For today, 09/21 Let me know if you were absent for last Thursday’s exam.

Unit 1 Exam averages by period 5th Period 6th Period 7th Period Multiple Choice 72.04 77.29 77.5 MC High Score 100% 97% 94% FRQ 77.92 77.93 79.45 FRQ 100s 4 2 Overall Average 74.98 77.61 78.48

# 1 Most missed 17.5 %

# 2 Most missed 37.5%

# 3 Most missed 46.3%

FRQ Analysis (A.) = 1 point (B.) = 4 points (C.) = 1 point (D.) = 1 point 7 = 100% 5 = 86% 3 = 70% 1 = 54% 6 = 92% 4 = 78% 2 = 62% 0 = 46% General FRQ Comments: (A.) Scale. Needed to demonstrate impact/effect on entire world. Makes something worldwide. (B.) World economy not addressed. Lack of elaboration of idea, needed to “discuss” each impact. (C.) Had to at least address impact on receiving culture. (D.) Had to at least use or address an example of “social media” in response.

Things to consider for the next FRQ: (1.) Identify and follow the ACTION words in the question. “Define” and “discuss” mean totally different things. To “discuss” basically means to explain. Very seldom can you be awarded full points with one sentence when you are asked to “discuss” or explain something. (2.) Prewrite. College Board statistics indicate that, on average, students who write on their exams score higher than those who do not. (3.) Time management. Some students need to speed up. Others need to utilize the remaining time to look over their FRQ response. (4.) LENGTH! It is my belief that some students thought they were not allowed to write on the back of the FRQ answer sheet. (5.) Understand what you’re working against. FRQs, for the most part, are rights-only scored. This means you cannot lose points for saying wrong information; rather, you only GAIN points for a satisfactory response.

Population and Migration Unit 2 overview Population and Migration Population and Health = Chapter 2 Migration = Chapter 3 Friday, October 16: Migration Movie Projects due (bring your popcorn!)  Thursday, October 15: Unit Exam (30ish MC questions & 1 FRQ) Tuesday, October 13: Vocabulary and Map Exam (Population, Migration, and Europe) Monday, October 12: Chapter 3 Reading Quiz Wednesday, September 30: Chapter 2 Reading Quiz

Key issue 1 outline analysis Let’s examine how effective your outlines are. Can you answer these? (1.) What are the 4 major population clusters of the world. Which cluster has the highest % of residents living in cities? (2.) What are the 4 types of places that humans avoid living? (3.) What is arable land? (4.) How can comparing two country’s agricultural densities explain economic differences between them? (5.) What are the global regions with the lowest agricultural densities?
