Editing… But Why? You need to edit because you do not know everything. We make mistakes. Computers can’t read our minds.
Editing….. But how? Read your essay over, and over, and over, and over again. First time: Read it to make sure you have all of your ideas and content that you need to support your thesis and your topic sentences. Second time: Read it again to make sure you have your transitions, topic sentences, concrete details, commentaries and that everything flows. Third time: Check for spelling errors, punctuation, grammar, etc. Fourth Time: Read it out loud so you can hear your essay and see if everything makes sense.
Editing Marks When editing essays, use specific marks to tell you what to fix in your essay!
Group Work In your groups, use the editing marks to mark what is wrong with the following paragraphs. Use the whiteboard markers to mark on the sheets. Within your groups, come up with three questions to ask to make the paragraph longer/have more information.
