REGULAR VERBS Verbs whose INFINITIVES end in -ar follow a pattern.

REGULAR VERBS The endings show who is doing the action: (yo) hablo, (tú) hablas, and so on.

REGULAR VERBS Verbs that follow certain patterns are called REGULAR verbs.

IRREGULAR VERBS Verbs that do not follow certain patterns are called IRREGULAR verbs.

IRREGULAR VERBS The verb you are about to learn, “ir” is IRREGULAR. It means “to go” in English. It is often followed by the word a: Voy al cine.

TO GO (In English) I go You go He She goes It We go They go

IR (To go) Yo voy Tú vas Ud. Él va Ella Nosotros vamos Vosotros vais Uds. Ellos van Ellas

You must put to memory the forms of “ir” because it is an irregular verb and it follows no pattern.

Ir + a + INFINITIVE We use a form of the verb ir + a + infinitive to tell what someone is going to do.

IR + a + INFINITIVE Yo voy a nadar. Y tú, ¿vas a jugar fútbol? I’m going to swim. And you, are you going to play soccer?
