Report Writing Tips

Formats Response lengths are limited; no penalty for fewer words Use tables and charts to represent complex information. Submit final versions in Exceed but develop drafts in Word. Bulleted points with supporting data are effective. Describe data sources with specificity. Don’t assume that readers will look up data outside of report. Don’t say “available upon request.”
Writing Strategies Accentuate the positive! Be concise in mentioning data errors. Think about budgets in relation to future needs and opportunities. Avoid subjective assertions about quality. Have colleagues outside of your program read your report. Write for a general audience.
