World Youth Day - WYD Rio 2013 Health Alert From 23 to 28 July, 2013, the World Youth Day will be celebrated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This event increases the risk of importations of measles and rubella viruses by due to the large influx of people visiting Rio from areas where measles and rubella are still circulating. Independently Brazil has reported 72 confirmed measles cases this year and the outbreak is still ongoing. For this reason, the Pan American Health Organization: Recommends that travelers verify that they are vaccinated against measles and rubella to reduce the risk of acquiring disease Urges all Member States to strengthen their international travel advisories so that travelers are protected against measles and rubella prior to departure.
